FAQ
IoT Octopus monitoring questions.
What it can monitor, how suitability and installation are assessed, and how configured monitoring relates to equipment records. Not here? Book a demo and we will go through it on your own equipment.
What is IoT Octopus?
IoT Octopus is Innovate-Ops' monitoring hardware and cloud software that makes the equipment you already own intelligent: each machine reports its health, maintenance need, energy use and uptime.
What can it measure?
Each hub carries eight sensors of any mix — vibration, temperature, proximity, speed, pressure, flow, counts, existing instruments — plus three current clamps for three-phase current and power, and its own internal sensors for ambient temperature and humidity. Any configuration can be set up for any type of equipment. Power and energy measurement require appropriate metering.
Will it work on every machine?
Suitability must be assessed for the application. Equipment type, environment, sensor access, connectivity and installation requirements affect the proposed setup.
Does it predict the exact date of a failure?
Monitoring helps people review changes over time. It does not guarantee a failure date or replace inspection, professional judgement or safety procedures.
Is an installation always non-invasive?
Installation requirements depend on the sensors and equipment. External vibration and temperature sensors mount on accessible surfaces; electrical access or other work may require qualified personnel and site approval.
How is this different from a CMMS?
A CMMS tracks work. IoT Octopus follows how selected equipment is operating and shows changes worth a look, with the context behind them. It is used alongside existing maintenance systems and procedures rather than replacing them.
How long does installation take?
Installation often takes about an hour in suitable configurations: external vibration and temperature sensors mount on accessible surfaces and the hub connects outbound over an encrypted link. Site preparation, electrical access for a current clamp (qualified personnel) and commissioning depend on the application. Our team can install it, or you can self-install with a guided kit.
Does it work on older or legacy machinery?
Usually, yes. External sensors need no instrumentation on the machine itself, so older units and modern drives are treated the same way. Suitability, sensor access and connectivity are confirmed per application.
What value do we get on day one?
Readings arrive in the portal the same day the hub is fitted. Over the first weeks the asset learns its own normal across shifts and duty; from then on, changes are compared with that history and notifications are tuned with you. A starting baseline does not by itself prove the equipment is healthy.
What does a typical deployment look like?
A small pilot on a few critical assets first, installed by our team. We review the readings with yours over the first weeks; when the value is clear, the first full site follows — typically 10 to 30 assets — and then the rest, site by site, on one platform.
Is IoT Octopus already fully integrated with OctoVault?
IoT Octopus supports configured monitoring, while OctoVault supports equipment records and passports — a separate product. Richer integration is part of the product direction, not a current capability.
Can we see a case study?
Yes — on request. Several case studies across sectors stand behind what we say on the Applications page; we keep them confidential by default and go through them in detail with interested customers.
How is our data secured, and where is it stored?
Equipment data is encrypted in transit and at rest, with per-customer data isolation, on a platform built on Google Cloud using the most modern data-security protocols. Data residency is agreed with each customer. Security documentation is available for customer reviews — see the security page.
Where is Innovate-Ops based?
Innovate-Ops Inc. is based in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. Contact us to discuss the location and requirements of your application.
How do we start?
Book a demo and describe the equipment and the question your team is trying to answer. The usual next step is a small pilot on a few critical assets — see the value, then expand fast.
